The Korean wave
We will present about the “Korean Wave”. The Korean Wave, also known as the “Hallyu”, refers to spread of South Korean culture around the world. Chinese first coined the term “the Korean wave”, to describe the popularity of Korean Dramas. And today, the meaning of “the Korean wave” has been expanded to almost every Korean culture. [1]
First, Korean Dramas are very popular especially in Asia, for example, China and Japan. ‘Winter sonata’ starring ‘Bae Yong-joon’ has swept Asia, especially Japan.[2], and ‘Jewel in the palace’, ‘East of Eden’ is also very popular.

Next, K-pop is also loved today. K-pop means Korean pop music. Dongbangsingi, Girl’s generation , Wonder Girls and Super Junior are some of the most popular K-pop singers.[3]

Korean movies also have many fans in the world. They have been awarded many prizes in prominent competitions, for example Cannes Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival and International Berlin Film Festival. “Old boy”, “Memories of Murder” and Secret Sunshine” are representative prize winners.[4]

The last, Korean food become known to the world today. Because it is tasty, healthy and has low fat, Korean food is helpful to people who want to reduce their weight. Kimchi made of cabbage, and Bean paste pot stew made of the fermented soybean paste are fermented food so they are rich in lactobacillus, a kind of good bacteria.[5] And Bibimbop has various vegetables so it is colorful, eye-catching and tasty.

Lack of Sportsmanship

Filed under: Class 157,student presentations — richardlstansfield @ 3:43 am

Text

Sportsmanship is basic manners, etiquette of sports. It is a spirit that players, coaches, assistants, trainers and audiences have to have. The contents of sportsmanship are suppression of negative emotions, compassion and fair play. Sportsmanship is very important because it is the code for ethics of sportsman. If people don’t have sportsmanship, they can harm others. Also, there is great confusion in the stadium. For these reasons, athletes must show sportsmanship.
However these days, some violence happens in sports.
For example, [1] In soccer, during on ACL(Asian Champion’s League) match ‘Suwon’ of Korea and ‘Al-sadd’ of Qatar, there was a violent happening. The reason was the ungentlemanly behavior like goal of Al-sadd’s player in the second half. As soon as Al-sadd’s player put the ball into the net and a Suwon supporter ran on to field. After he hit the player, the fight spread other players, coaching staff and security guards. They pushed, punched, even kicked each other. The game was thrown into chaos.

Similarly, [2] in baseball, in the 2011 Korean series playoff between SK Wyverns and LOTTE Giants there was a violent happening. In this case, the reason was a drunken fan’s rude behavior. He blamed opponent player and threw plastic bottle on to the field. He even hit a guard and broke his a tooth.

So, why did these problems happen?
Because people want their team to win too much. Regionalism is one of the causes. People cheer for their region teams. If a country team win a sports game, the citizen would shout with joy. It’s natural. But the problem is that it is a bit much.
Another reason is they’re disappointed with the result from the match. People cheer their team with all their energy. They believe in winning at all costs.
We have to consider these things seriously. We think that there are to improve sportsmanship. The first is being aware of the problem. People always remember the winner. To take the sportsmanship, we shouldn’t focus on the grade, but we should just enjoy the game.
Next, we should think of opponents as friend not rivals. Here is a good example. [3] At the 10,000-meter speed skating race, in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. Dutch spectators gave a standing ovation to Lee seoung hun, who won a gold medal.

Another is a legal aspect. We also think more security is needed in stadiums.
Last, there should be fines for people who break the rules.
