The Champions League is a special tournament of European soccer teams. There are 32 elite teams in this tournament, and only one team receives the winner’s cup.

In 2011, the champions league was very amazing. There were many extraordinary events. Because relatively weak teams beat the strong teams. Nobody expected these extraordinary events.
For Tottenham, 2011 would be a very special year. Even though it was their first participation in the Champions League, they went to the Quarter-final. When they beat AC Milan in Round of 16, lots of soccer fans got shocked. (For reference, AC Milan won Champions League 7times.)
Also for Shalke, this year would be an unforgettable year. They are not good at their league now. They are 6th place in their league, but their playing in the Champions League was unbelievable. Especially, their goalkeeper Neur was outstanding. He prevented many critical So they went to the Semi-final.

And there were very famous rival matches in 2011 Champions League. Chelsea vs Manchester United(Man U) derby and El Clásico derby is one. First, Chelsea and Man U are very famous rivals in England’s league. Their match was very exiting and fun. Finally, as a result of Rooney’s fantastic playing, Man U won and went to the Semi-final.

The other is El Clásico derby. El Clásico derby is Real madrid and Barcelona’s match. they were rivals in Spain’s league. Their match was very violent and speedy. So many people, especially the players, were always nervous. What was worse, they had physical fights and Real madrid’s manager was forced to leave. The First match was end of Barcelona’s win, because nobody could defend against the Messi of Barcelona.

For old soccer fans, 2011 Champions League would be a good present, because old players showed fantastic playing. Especially Giggs, Raul, and Van der sar were outstanding. Giggs is 37 years old, but his passing was very threatening and accurate. Manchester United’s soccer starts with his passes. Without Giggs, Manchester United couldn’t come up to Semi-Final. And Raul is 33 years old. He is a Striker. For striker’s speed is very important, so many strikers think about retiring at 30. Of course Raul is not as fast as his golden age, but he is still a key player in his team. He made his shots more accurately, and he made his attacking movement better, so that he can overcome his age. Last player who I will tell you is Van der sar. He is the goal keeper of Manchester United and 40years old. Anyone who see his play, they can’t believe that he is 40years old. His physical ability is better than player in their 20’s. In 2011 Champion’s League he allowed only 1goal.
