Topic : Imaginary characters

ⅰ) Text

Do you like imaginary characters?

Maybe you often see them on dramas or movies.

But you don`t know about them well.

So we will talk about them in detail.

First, Let`s talk about zombies.

Zombies are the subject of many movies.

They are disgusting because they try to eat people.

In recent movies, zombies are caused by viruses.

If somebody is bitten or scratched by a zombie, they will become a zombie.

So, in the movies, almost everybody becomes a zombie.

You can only kill them by damaging their brain.

So, they can have many different kinds of damage to their body (e.g. missing eye, broken arm, etc).

They attack humans even though they have no reason to.

Because of viruses and mutations, zombies might be possisble in the future.

And another imaginary character that we talk to you is a vampire.

Vampires are mythological beings who survive by eating someone`s or something`s blood.

In the past, many quthors used this monster in their writing.

Vampires have been recorded in many countries, cultures. But there are common things about vampires.

1. Vampires eat blood to survive.

2. Vampires become weak when exposed to sunlight. So they act at night.

3. Also, their other weaknesses are the Cross, holy water and wooden sticks.

So when people want to kill vampires in folktales, they use the Corss or holy water to make vampires weak.

And when the vampire is weak enough, people kill vampires by hammering wooden sticks into the vampire`s hearts

or set fire to vampires.

4. Vampires don`t look old and they live forever.

5. They can transform themselves into a vat or a wolf.

6. Only a weapon that is made of silver can injure vampires.

7. People that were bitten so there is vampire`s blood in their body return as a vampire.

Above all, there are a variety of views about vampires.

But are they only views?

Actually, there is “vampire disease”.

That is “Porphyrias”.

This diease makes people get seizures.

So patients with porphyrias feel anxiety,

restlessness and have insomnia.

And they get psychological or behavoir change.

They also get blisters on their skin in sunlight like vampires.

So in severe cases, they must cover all of their body with clothes when they go out.

The reason why patients of porphyrias were called “vampires” is this.

In their body, they need blood supply from outside.
