Speaking Test

How to do well on your Final Speaking Test

– When asking your partner a question, use correct stress.

(Remember: We always stress nouns, main verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.)

–> When answering a question, use complete sentences.

–> When answering a questions, give details.

How many questions you answer is not important. How well you answer each question is important. Quality is more important than quantity.

Example #1

Question: Is it better to have a digital camera or a regular camera?

Terrible answer: “Digital camera.”

Bad answer: “It’s better to have a digital camera.”

Good answer: “I think it’s better to have a digital camera. It’s more fun. You can see the pictures right away. Also, you can store so many pictures on a memory card.”

Example #2

Question: How do you stay healthy?

Terrible answer: “Gym.”

Bad answer: “I go to the gym.”

So-so answer: “I go to the gym three times a week. There, I jog on the treadmill for twenty minutes.”

Good answer: “I go to the gym three times a week. There, I jog on the treadmill for twenty minutes. I also do a little weight training.”

Excellent answer: “I go to the gym three times a week. There, I jog on the treadmill for twenty minutes. I also do a little weight training. Additionally, I try to eat good fruit, like apples, everyday.”

Also …

–> Don’t speak too slowly or too quickly.

–> Don’t speak too quietly. (You don’t have to be loud. Just be loud enough for your partner and I to hear you easily.)

–> Don’t hesitate or pause.

e.g. “Ummm … I go to the gym … uhhh … three times a week. There, I … 뭐지? … jog on the treadmill for … 뭐라고? … twenty minutes.”

–> Do not miss your appointment!

I only have one week to test all of my students, so I cannot reschedule. So if you miss your appointment, you miss the test, and you get 0 out of 30%. Also, you will be marked absent for the whole week (3 hours).

–> Do not be late!

You and your partner only have 10 minutes for this test. That is only 5 minutes for each student. It is worth 30% of your final grade. So, for every minute you are late, you will lose 6 marks.

If your partner is not there, go into the room anyway. Do not be late because of your partner. (I will do the test with you alone.)

    • You’re right that I repeated one question. I’ll delete one of the copies.

However, I did include a question from your group’s presentation:
“What festival activities do you want to participate in? Why?”
