How to do well in your Final Speaking Test

Filed under: announcements, final speaking exam — richardlstansfield @ 7:39 am

– When asking your partner a question, use good stress and rhythm.

– When answering a question, use complete sentences.

– When answering a question, give details.

How many questions you answer is not important. How well you answer each question is important. Quality is more important than quantity. (Quality > Quantity)

You can improve your answer by adding:

– your opinion
(“In my opinion, Halloween is the best holiday for children.”)

– reasons why
(” … because children love the sweet taste of candy.”)

– examples
(“For example, chocolate bars or peppero sticks.”)

– a short story
(“When I was young, I went out trick-or-treating and got peppero sticks. Since they were my favorite candy, I was very happy.”

——————–

Example: Which holiday do you like best?

“F”-quality answer

“Halloween.”

“D”-quality answer

“I like Halloween best.”

“C”-quality answer

“I like Halloween best because you can put on a costume and go to a party.”

“B”-quality answer

I like Halloween best because you can put on a costume and go to a party. You can also go trick-or-treating and get candy.

“A”-quality answer

I like Halloween best because you can put on a costume and go to a party. You can also go trick-or-treating and get candy. In my opinion, Halloween is the best holiday for children because children love the sweet taste of candy. For example, chocolate bars or peppero sticks. When I was young, I went out trick-or-treating and got peppero sticks. Since they were my favorite candy, I was very happy.

——————–

Also …

–> Don’t speak too slowly or too quickly.

–> Don’t speak too quietly. (You don’t have to be loud. Just be loud enough for your partner and I to hear you easily.)

–> Don’t hesitate or pause.

e.g. “I like … ummm … Halloween best because … uhh … you can put on a … 뭐지? … costume and go to a … 뭐라고? … party.”

If you are trying to remember something, then say, “Let me think …”

–> Do not miss your appointment!

I only have one week to test all of my students, so I cannot reschedule. So if you miss your appointment, you miss the test, and you get 0 out of 30%. Also, you will be marked absent for the whole week (3 hours).

–> Do not be late!

You and your partner only have 10 minutes for this test. That is only 5 minutes for each student. It is worth 30% of your final grade. So, for every minute you are late, you will lose 6 marks.

If your partner is not there, go into the room anyway. Do not be late because of your partner. (I will do the test with you alone.)

places to study

Filed under: student presentations — richardlstansfield @ 2:32 am

When an exam comes, people find places to study, such as the library.
We will introduce examples at inha university.

An important example of them is Jeong-Seok library that can accommodate many students.

We can use the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors and basement to study anytime. But in the basement, we have to take a ticket to use the seats. There are 18 hour tickets from 6 am, 6 hour tickets from 6 am, 6 hour tickets from 12 pm, and 6 hour tickets from 6 pm. But you don’t have to take a ticket from 12 am to 6 am. 1) It is free time.

And on the 4th floor of the students’ center, we can find 생활 library.

It is smaller than Jeong-Seok library and is open from 10 am to 4 pm. There are computers everyone can use, many books, and staff who can help you borrow a book. you can hear new age songs there as well. 2)

Also, We can find libraries in Building number 2, 5, 6, and etc. We don’t need tickets there. All seats are free. During exam periods, I recommend these places because Jeong-seok gets full quickly and the seats aren’t free

If you can’t find and place to study or want to study with friends by talking, I recommend going outdoors. There are in-kyeong lake,

the center of building number 5

and club rooms. They have very nice environments. During the last mid-term exam period, I studied at the center of building number 5 with friends. The discussions I had at that time were very helpful to me.
