The are divided into the seven mysteries of the world at lisbon, portugal on July 7th, at 7 p.m., by 100 million people in the world.

The Great Pyramid of Khufu
The Great Pyramid of Khufu was the biggest man-made structure. (The height was 146.6meters in its time, but now it is 137.5meters.) It is located in the Giza Plateau, on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. It was constructed over a 20 year period.(said by Herodotus, Greek historian) Khufu’s vizer(English : minister), Hemon or Hemiunu, was in charge of construction.

Giza Pyramid(1)

Colosseum is the largest amphitheater in the world. Its formal name os the Flavian Amphitheater. Construction began under Emperor Veccipasianus in AD72. and was completed by Emperor Titus in AD80. The reason why the colosseum is one of the seven Wonders of the world is because it was made with concrete and has very delicate irrigating facilities. Because this arena’s bottom structure is very complicated, people wondered about its purpose for the colosseum when this was discovered. It has irrigating facilities and drainage facilities. so we can guess that people played naval battles at that time. The festival in colosseum was divided into two forms. Each was the battle with fighters and hunting wild animals.(venatione)
Usually, hunting wild animals were in morning and the battle with fighters were in afternoon.

Petra is located in south of Jordan. It was constructed by Nabataeans. Navataeans was nomad who lived in syria and Arabian peninsula from BC 7century to BC 2century. Along deep and narrow valley, there are theater, a warm bath house and water works facilities in that red city like a ghost.
Petra’s construction carved in rock mountain enclosed narrow road and canyon is made by carving rock wall.

Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is located in Peru, South America. Machu picche means “long mountain top”. You can’t see the foot of he mountain from it, so it is called ‘air city’. It’s located at on altitude of 2430m. Machu picchu is called “The lost city of the Incas”. Spain conquerors guessed that Machu picchu was the legendary city of “EL dorao” and searched everywhere for evidence of this. It is unknown until now. what was it’s purpose, How it was constructed, and Why it was left. Modern science can nat explain how they moved exquisitely constructed stones heavier than 200tons.

Christ the Redeemer(Real name(Portuguese) : Cristo Redentor)
Christ the Redeemer is a statue to celebrate the 100th anniversary of being independent from Portugal. It is located at the peak of corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the 5th largest statue of Jesus in the world. (It is 30 meters tall, not including its 8 meters pedestal, and its arms stretch 28 meters wide. It weighs 635 tons.) It was constructed between 1926 and 1931. It is a symbol of the Brazilian Christian religion and well-known tourist attraction in the world. Brazilian constructor, Heitor da Silva Costa and French-Polack sculptor, Paul Landowski were in charge of designing the statue. Why is Christ the Redeemer Wonder? Frankly, it was made recently. A style of building is not unique. And a method of voting is not credence. Nevertheless its solidity, exquisiteness, and greatness are accepted.

Christ the Redeemer(2)
