2.Glossary
*neutral buoyancy : Neutral buoyancy has neutral buoyancy will neither sink nor rise.
*underwater : Something that exists or happens underwater exists or happens below the surface of the sea, a river, or a lake
*decompression sickness : a disorder characterized by severe pain in muscles and joints, cramp, and difficulty in breathing, caused by a sudden and sustained decrease in air pressure, resulting in the deposition of nitrogen bubbles in the tissues
*buddy : a close friend, usually a male friend of a man.
*seaweed : a plant that grows in the sea. There are many kinds of seaweed.

Scuba diving is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a self contained underwater breathing apparatus(scuba) to breathe underwater.[1]

1

Scuba diving is a kind of sport in underwater. From underwater diving, we can explore various interesting underwater creatures(fish and seaweed) and admire underwater scenery. also you can get balanced body , sense of balance and flexibility of the body in weightless state
If you complete a scuba education, you can easily enjoy exploration in underwater.
But, scuba diving is not simple sport. various equipments are needed for scuba diving.

2

First, its name is ‘Suit’. Suit is basic equipment. It protects our body and helps to maintain body heat.
This is ‘Gloves’ and ‘Boots’. They are also basic equipments and have same function with suit.
This is ‘Mask’ and ‘Snorkel’. Mask allows us to see the front cleary and snorkel helps breathe at the surface layer. They are really useful.
This is ‘Air Tank’. It can save a lot of air so we can use air in water. We will really need it.
This is ‘Regulator’. It regulates the pressure of the air. The air in Air Tank is compressed with high pressure, so if we use air without Regulator, it expands and damages our body. A air pressure regulator has one or more valves in series which reduce pressure from the source, and use the downstream pressure as feedback to control the delivered pressure, lowering the pressure at each stage.[2]
This is ‘Gauges’ and ‘Compass’. Gauges show the rest of air and the depth of water. Compass indicates the directions.
This is ‘Dive Computer’. It shows depth of water, dive time, temperature, rising speed etc. When you learn how to use it, you can enjoy SCUBA-DIVING more.
This is ‘Buoyancy Compensator’ and ‘Weight’. Buoyancy Compensator is used with the air in air tank. When we pump it up, it expands and makes buoyancy. Buoyancy makes us float. On the other hand, weight makes us sink. We have to use them appropriately.
scuba diving is dangerous sport. You must keep a few rule.
First, Do not touch a strange fish. It maybe has poison. for example puffer have poison.

3

Second, always move with your buddy diver. If you have problem, buddy diver will help you or notify other people.
third, do not sweep the floor for security of sight. if you don’t keep this rule, you may get decompression sickness. so you need to practice to maintain neutral buoyancy.
And the most important rule is do not stop breathing. In the water, because of the water pressure the air is always compressed. So if you stop breathing, the air in lung will expand and damage your body. It can kill you, so you must be careful.
if you keep the rule, you can enjoy safe scuba diving!
