WORLD FESTIVALS

Our presentation is about World festivals.
First, I’ll explain a history of festival. Religious and cultural origins of the festival is based on seasonal changes, commemoration of the sacred time, and a rite of passage such as childbirth, coming-of-age ceremony, marriage etc. In the past, festival was an important device which gives information to people and accords cohesiveness to community to maintain society and religion. In modern times, it has changed role which relaxes, recharges, or breaks away from everyday affairs.

Second, I’ ll introduce Three world famous festivals.
Then, I present a Carnival of Brazil, Rio Carnival. This festival takes place in Rio de janeiro, which is one of the most beautiful harbors in the world. The Festival is held over four days day and night. Brazil as well as people around the world enjoy this festival. It is very exciting and people go mad. The samba rhythm is full of fun.

And Sapporo Snow Festival is held in Japan Hokkaido. This takes place in three places Among those are the main place is odori. It is held lazer show, Queen of snow contest and ski show. All of the sculpture is made of ice. The number of visitor is two million people

Last, Beer festival is held in germany. This name of the festival is oktoberfest. The festival be held to keep the tradition of Germany. The start of festival is drinking of mayor. Costume parade and Beer-drinking competition be held. You can drink ninety-five kinds of beer.

Third, Korea has many festivals. A typical festival in Korea is ‘the Boreyoung mud festival’. Many tourist come to Boreyoung enjoy mud festival. Boreyoung is a good place to have this festival because Boreyoung has the highest grade mud. The Boreyoung mud festival has been held every mid-september since 1998. Contents of the Boreyoung mud festival are mud-game contest, mud-make up contest, mud-massage experience and other many contents there.

And ‘the Hi-seoul festival’ is a typical festival in Korea too. The Hi-seoul festival is held four times a year every spring, summer, fall, winter in seoul since 2003. Hi-seoul festival’s slogan is ‘most surprise enjoy go through seoul’. Hi-seoul festival want to become famous festival in the world and to show Korea’s characteristic culture.

Now, We will show festivals of other countries.
First, called ‘La Tomatina’, a tomato festival of spain. This festival originated in 1944. Angry farmers threw tomatoes at the members of a city council. The reason was that the price of tomatoes nosedived. This festival meet will be held on every year in August the last day of the week.

Second, Cervantino of Mexico is the most important festival in Latin America. And Enough to be listed as a World Heritage Site is a world festival. This festival started in 1972. It originated in the commemoration of cervantes writer of ‘Don Quixote’. A festival of arts and culture by artists from around the world gathered concerts, ballet, opera, theater and more. Performing a variety of genres and Exhibition will be held.

mayor: (noun) the head of the local council in a city

competition: (noun) an event in which people compete.

slogan: (noun) A slogan is a short phrase that is easy to remember. Slogans are used in advertisements and by political parties and other organizations who want people to remember what they are saying or selling.

characteristic: (noun) A quality or feature that is characteristic of someone or something is one which is often seen in them and seems typical of them.

nosedive: (verb) to fall very quickly in value

world heritage: (noun) according to the UNESCO World Heritage Convention since 1972 for the entire human race deems necessary to protect the heritage of universal value

commemorate: (verb) to do something to show you remember an important person or event in the past with respect
